Hello there! Welcome to the first Croppers in Bloom Blog posting.

We have recently revamped our website so we are now whizzier- hopefully you will all agree! For those of you who have not popped into the shop- we have a small friendly team of florists, based in Theale, West Berkshire, and we love flowers.

A little about each of us

Helen- that’s me- after working for the previous owner of Croppers, (joining at the ripe age of 17)- and training at the Berkshire College of Agriculture qualifying to level 3 City and Guilds Diploma, my love of floristry was formed. Then- at 22 in 2008, I had the opportunity to buy the business and put my own stamp on things.

First thing was first- a lick of paint… and a new van… and business cards… and a website… and lots of elbow grease.

We have introduced a line of gift stock, networked, been to lots of lovely locations for weddings, and events, helped out at Chelsea Flower Show, and most importantly- loved flowering up- each and every minute.

I personally LOVE a good wedding- who doesn’t? I love the early morning prep (honest)-I love seeing the bride’s face in the morning after bringing together all the samples and swatches, discussed over many months previous, to create their own bespoke design for their special day. You can’t beat the feeling of setting up a wedding venue and being thanked for basically doing what I love.

Jules- our new recruit since January 2016. Jules is another that has a natural flair for putting flowers together. Jules has dabbled in a number of flowery projects at local country estates, for her own friends and family, and has fitted in a treat. A mother of two- she is kept on her toes with being a fantastic mum… along with having a rather bonkers spaniel- and a keen attendee of Rock choir- life is certainly never dull. (Can I add- Jules is the only member of the team that can ACTUALLY sing- the rest of us can only dream!)

Next we have Katie- she joined the team in April 2017. Katie changed up her working week recently to study floristry at Berkshire College of Agriculture part time, as well as working at a local hospital doing admin.

After qualifying- Katie decided to put her new found green fingers to use and joined our team, as well as moving to another hospital for the first part of the week.

Katie is very dedicated, talented and a real delight to have in the team. She drinks nearly as much tea as I do- which is quite a lot! Katie’s favourite flower is the Coral Charm peony- it only seems to be with us for such a short time- but it goes in just about everything when we have them.

Then we have our guest start appearances from Lucie… our tall English rose of our own. Lucie splits her time between her day job, a cutting garden florist, volunteering and our little florist. Lucie has a natural flair for putting beautiful blooms together, and has been doing so since April 2015. With a background of office work, here in the UK and in New York, Lucie adds a touch of class to the team here at Croppers.

Each and every florist has a style and “look” of their own…  and you know when you have a “Lucie” bouquet… quite the fan of foliage, and using flowers in their natural season… you can be assured that anything made by her will be a true delight!

Then on to the drivers…

Our Graham- he takes the helm of the van on Mondays and Tuesdays. A die hard Chelsea and Reading FC fan- you will find him dabbling in the garden when he isn’t delivering flowers to the furthest corners of West Berkshire. He loves to grow different varieties of tomatoes and often gets assistance in the garden from his grandson, Orlando.

Paul- there isn’t a road that Paul doesn’t know. Paul knows Berkshire like the back of his hand, and always has a story to tell, and has been with me pretty much since I took over the business in 2008. A local family man, with a razor sharp sense of humour- he looks after the Wednesday deliveries.

Jackie- our lovely Jacqueline. Jackie has the Thursday and Friday slot. She looks after the team with countless cups of tea, and is partial to waving a feather duster around too! After meeting Jackie a few years ago- in of all places the Royal Berkshire Hospital- and bumping into her again in B and Q- our diaries synchronized and since May 2014 she has been trying to take all of our flowers home….shame I keep finding out.

Phil- my dad- always dedicated his Saturday mornings to delivering for me ever since I bought the shop in 2008- and I have always appreciated his help. Phil, now retired is also a huge Reading FC fan, and has recently joined a local boules team- following in the footsteps of his father. Phil is very conscientious and always gives 100% to the team- often roped in on peak holidays too- Dad is the very best!

Then in the background- we have Julie- my filing and paperwork demon! Also known as my Mother- also another to be roped in at peak times (Christmas, Valentines and Mothering Sunday)- she is a pro on the phone, and takes care of my accounts. Again- always supporting me, and I appreciate all her help.

So now you know our little flowery family- pop by and say hello.

Please help! I have been to a wedding fair and I feel confused, especially about flowers
Hello all, just a little advice from our team if you have recently attended a wedding fair, and you feel confused....
